The apostle Paul and the elders of Ephesus, part 4

Once, while traveling to Jerusalem, the apostle Paul stopped to give instructions to the elders of the church in Ephesus. Speaking to them he parted the veil of the future a little, saying: “save that the Holy Spirit testifieth unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.”

This awareness, however, did not stop Paul’s determined journey toward Jerusalem. Instead of timidly changing his plans, he said: “But I hold not my life of any account as dear unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”

I live in the understanding that God expects this same of us all. That is, that in each of our lives the calling and purpose God has planned for us is fulfilled. That is, that regardless of circumstances, or without caring too much for our own wellbeing, we can say with Paul: “so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus.”
