Unfinished

You may have heard of Kanter’s law: When a job is unfinished, everything seems to fail. More familiar than this claim is probably the saying on the same subject according to which unfinished work must not be criticized.

Besides the fact that various things and measures are unfinished before they are completed, we human beings are like that too. And even if God’s work in us seems to fail, it is still worth refraining from criticizing God’s unfinished work too much — that is, ourselves or our neighbor.

The apostle Paul once wrote:

“…I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you… for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ: even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all…”

So it is right to think both of oneself and of one’s neighbors that although the work is unfinished and it may even seem to fail, God will bring his work in each one to completion. And in the end we shall become finished!
