But the end of all things is at hand

The apostle Peter wrote the words of the title about 2000 years ago. We could therefore say that the end of all things — the final fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation — has been awaited for a long time.

It is exceedingly interesting to pause and look at what kind of preparedness instructions Peter recorded both for his contemporaries and for us, who also look at the present events of the world as the beginning of the end.

The instructions may surprise. The apostle wrote: “But the end of all things is at hand. Therefore…

1. Be sober-minded. Think rightly. In other words, let no one deceive you.

2. Pray.

3. Love one another fervently.

4. Be hospitable.

5. Serve one another with the gifts of grace you have received from God.

6. Remember that trials are a normal part of life.

7. Rejoice.

8. Do not meddle in matters that do not belong to you.

9. Commit your whole life into God’s hands.

10. Do good.”
